OPERATION SAVE A LIFE

Wed, Dec 17th, 2008 12:00:00 pm -

Have you checked your smoke detectors?

Your fire safety and prevention is important to us. Here are a couple of fire prevention tips for you and your family.

You should test all smoke detectors at least once a month by pushing and holding the test button. When you change your clocks in the spring and fall you should also replace the batteries in ALL of your smoke detectors. Also, it is a good idea to clean your detector with a vacuum. Cob-webs and dust particles collect and prevent the detector from working properly.

If your smoke detectors are older than 10 years old, you need to replace them. Detectors only work properly for about 10 years. Smoke detectors can be purchased from most hardware and general drug stores. If you live in Lawnton, contact us and we will replace your smoke detector for free.

You should have at least one smoke detector on every floor of your house. Also you should have a detector in the immediately adjacent area next to any bedroom or other sleeping quarters. Usually, you should place your smoke detectors on the ceiling or on the wall within one foot of the ceiling. Remember, always follow your manufacturer's directions.

The Lawnton Fire Company and ABC 27 News have teamed up in the Operation Save A Life Program. This program is designed to give out FREE smoke detectors to anyone who needs one. If you are in need of a smoke detector and or need help installing one please contact the station at 717-564-6819 to set up an appointment.
